The Pennsylvania State Police publishes annual crime reports for all the counties in the state. Its latest report shows that there was a total of 2,030 index crimes in Blair County in 2017. These include 252 violent crimes and 1,778 property crimes. A breakdown of these figures shows that recorded violent crimes include 67 rapes, 41 robberies, 144 aggravated assaults, and no cases of murder. Incidences of property crimes in that year include 1,447 larceny thefts, 69 motor vehicle thefts, and 13 arsons.
A quick comparison of Blair County’s 2013 and 2017 crime data shows that rape rate increased by 91.4% and robbery rate went up by 24.2% while aggravated assault rate dropped by 26.5% in Blair County. This five-year crime trend also reveals declining burglary (37%), larceny-theft (14.9%), motor vehicle theft (5.5%), and arson (18.8%) rates.
