Crime Statistics
The Pennsylvania State Police publishes an annual crime report for all the counties in the state. Its 2017 Publication shows the latest reports. In that year, Cumberland County recorded 3 murders, 75 rapes, 51 robberies, and 116 aggravated assaults. Reported incidences of property crime include 386 burglaries, 2,258 larcenies, and 73 motor vehicle thefts.
The five-year crime trend (ending in 2017) for Cumberland County reveals falling murder (25%), robbery (13.6%), burglaries (30.1%), larceny thefts (26%), motor vehicle thefts (11%) and arsons (50%) rates. However, reported cases of rape grew by 63%, and aggravated assault (68.2%).
Criminal Records
The Pennsylvania State Police provides criminal background checks for the state. Citizens can search criminal history records online through the Pennsylvania Access To Criminal History (PATCH). The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) maintains a central database of registered sex offenders in the state and makes this registry available to the public. Visit the PSP Megan's Law Website to search for registered sex offenders living in Cumberland County. Select the name of the county from the drop-down menu and submit your search request. The Sheriff’s Office oversees the county prison and provides Current Inmate Listing to help the public locate individuals incarcerated in this facility.
Friends and family can place funds in the inmate accounts at the kiosk located in the administrative lobby, from Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Credit card and cash are accepted for payment. Funds can also be deposited online through Offenderconnect.com.

The Court of Common Pleas is the highest trial court in Cumberland County. It hears cases that are not within the jurisdiction of other courts in the county. Vital Records
The Prothonotary's Office of the Court of Common Pleas-Civil Division issues divorce decrees. It charges $16.50 for a certified copy of divorce decree issued in Cumberland County. To obtain a copy of divorce decree, use its contact information written in the Court Record section.
The Register of Wills of Cumberland County issues certified copy of a marriage license. The Register charges $5 per copy. To obtain a copy, start by downloading and completing a Request for a Certified Copy of Marriage License. The completed application and required fees can be submitted by mail or in-person at the Register of Wills contact address written in the Court Record section.
Vital Records Division of the Pennsylvania Department of Health issues birth and death certificates from 1909, through the present. To order a birth or death certificate, start by downloading and filling an Application for a Birth Certificate or Application for a Death Certificate. Each certificate cost $20.
