Crime statistics for Montgomery County are unavailable. However, crime records for Norristown, the county seat and most populous municipality, are representative of crime trends in the county. Violent crime statistics for this municipality show that there were two murders, two rapes, 83 robberies, and 61 assaults in the county in 2016. A breakdown of property crimes in the Montgomery county seat shows that there 465 cases of larceny, 95 burglaries, and 48 motor vehicle thefts. There was no incident of arson in 2016 while the previous year recorded six cases.
Compared to 2015 figures, there were fewer incidences of all crimes except motor vehicle theft which grew by 9.4% in 2016. Murder, rape, robbery, and assault rates fell by 50%, 67%, 33%, and 34% respectively. Overall property crime rates also fell with burglary rate declining by 11.2% while larceny rate shrank by 12.7%.

The Pennsylvania Office of Vital Records maintains all birth and death records for the state. To request for any of these, download an Application for a Birth Certificate or Application for a Death Certificate. Both applications are also available in Spanish (birth and death). Bring the completed form along with an ID and the required fee to the Division of Vital Records, P.O. Box 1528, New Castle, PA 16103. The fee for a certified copy of a birth or death certificate is $20. The Division of Vital Records accepts checks and money orders made payable to VITAL RECORDS.
The Clerk of the Orphan's Court Division of Montgomery County is the official responsible for maintaining marriage records and providing copies upon request. All requests go to the Montgomery Marriage License Department. This office maintains records of marriage licenses issued in Montgomery County since 1885.
